From the page: "Lenin is said to have read the book five times in one summer, and according to Professor Emeritus of Slavic and Comparative Literature at Stanford, Joseph Frank, 'Chernyshevsky's novel, far more than Marx's Capital, supplied the emotional dynamic that eventually went to make the Russian Revolution.'"

From the page: "NEW YORKâ€"After Sen. Barack Obama's comments last week about what he typically eats for dinner were criticized by Sen. Hillary Clinton as being offensive to both herself and the American voters, the number of acceptable phrases presidential candidates can now say are officially down to four. "At the beginning of 2007 there were 38 things candidates could mention in public that wouldn't be considered damaging to their campaigns, but now they are mostly limited to 'Thank you all for coming,' and 'God bless America,'" ABC News chief Washington correspondent George Stephanopoulos said on Sunday's episode of This Week. "There would still be five phrases available to the candidates if the Obama camp hadn't accused Clinton of saying 'Glad to be here' with a little tinge of sarcasm during a stump speech in North Carolina." As of press time, the two additional phrases still considered appropriate for candidates are the often-quoted "These pancakes are great," and "Death to the infidels.""

From the page: "Earlier this year Save the Children UK co-authored a report describing a â€oehumanitarian implosion” in the Gaza Strip. It emphasised that the â€oeunprecedented humanitarian crisis” in Gaza, where children comprise over half the population, is â€oeman-made, completely avoidable and, with the necessary political will, can also be reversed.” Unlike in Burma, then, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is completely manufactured. It is not a consequence of some unforeseen natural disaster; rather, it is the intended result of policies designed to force the â€oeimpoverishment of an entire population.”"

From the page: "Bradbury: Well, the ritual is waking up, number one, and then lying in bed and listening to my voices. Then, over a period of years ... I call it my morning theater; itâ€s inside my head. And my characters talk to one another, and when it reaches a certain pitch of excitement, I jump out of bed and run and trap them before they are gone. So, I never have to worry about a routine; theyâ€re always in there talking.
...
Bradbury: No, dreams don't work. And I don't know of anyone that ever wrote anything based on dreams constantly. You may get inspiration once every ten years. But dreams are supposed to function to cure you of some problem that you have, so you leave those alone. That's a different process. But the morning process when you're waking up, and you're half asleep and half awake: that's the perfect time. Because then you're relaxed, and the brain is floating between your ears. It's not attached. Or getting in the shower, first thing in the morning, when your body is totally relaxed and your mind is totally relaxed. You're not thinking; you're intuiting. And then the little explosions, the little revelations come. Or taking a nap in the afternoon. It's the same state. But you can't force things. People try to force things. It's disastrous. Just leave your mind alone. Your intuition knows what it wants to write, so get out of the way."
